Ohio Governor John Kasich dropped into Greenville on March 14th to announce a $40 million expansion to the city’s Whirlpool plant that will add 400 new jobs. Rich Gillette, in the March 23 edition of The Dayton Daily News Business section, shared news of a little side-trip the Governor took while he was in town carrying out his important task:
Kasich ducked into The Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe, an institution in that town since 1934.
The restaurant is a quirky place. Its specialty is a rather distinctive sweet, loose-meat sandwich served on a hamburger bun. But its quirkiness reaches a new level on the restaurant’s exterior, where for many decades, visitors have left their chewed-up wads of gum on the wall. Everyone is invited to leave a bit of their DNA on the landmark’s bricks.
And today, the landmark has one more wad of gum—from the mouth of Gov. John Kasich.
County News Online reported that the Governor dined in the restaurant with Ohio State Representatives Jim Buchy, Jim Beagle, Richard Adams and State Senator Keith Faber.
